Yes, this is really it. One of the rarest of all philodendrons, if not THE RAREST. Philodendron Spiritus Sancti is known to live naturally in only one small region of Brasil- Espirito Santo- and and has been deemed endangered, which has led to it being a victim of much poaching. There are more Spiritus Sancti living in private collections than in it's natural habitat.
The Spiritus Sancti has been a highly sought after plant, and one of the hardest to find species in the trade. But with recent increases in people collecting them, and many of those individuals propagating them and growing them from seed, we are now able to offer it to you, at a more reasonable price!
Less than 1 year ago, I watched a mature specimen of Spiritus Sancti being auctioned off. The bid got up to $12500, and didn't sell, because the reserve price was not met! Less than a month later, I believe the seller found a private buyer, and shortly after that, there were unrooted cuttings of this beauty available for $3000-4000 a piece. I really should have gotten one!
At any rate, the plants we are selling are NOT tissue cultured. They are grown in the traditional way, from seeds. That being said, they are seedling-sized plants, with seedling-sized root systems; but are fully rooted, growing and stable plants. They are no more difficult to grow than many other philodendron in your collection, preferring high humidity and bright, indirect light, but something about the price tag may make us baby them just a bit more...
If you order a Philodendron Spiritus Sancti, it will be shipped to you using Express Shipping. We will arrange shipping with you, as it will not go out right away. If you are local to Chicago area, or would like to pick it up in person, please contact us before doing so, as we do not grow these on site, so it will have to be arranged in advance. Due to the popularity of this plant, we are limiting sales to one per person/household.
As these plants are not grown in our greenhouses, they are not available to view in our Chicago store. However, additional photos and video can be provided for you upon request, prior to making your purchase.
**This first four photos are of mature specimens, the first one with my arm in it, showing the length of their leaves. The last five photos are of the actual seedlings currently available for sale.**
